Cavernous sinus thrombosis

Definition:
A blood clot in the part of the sinus cavity that runs between the large bone at the base of the skull (sphenoid bone) and temporal bone (near the temple). It is treated with high-dose antibiotics. Sometimes surgical intervention is needed to drain the infected sinuses.
